vhf activity

Postby v51pj » Sun Apr 03, 2011 7:51 am

good day all and thanks for our own forum for Namibia

i would like to invite Hams in Namibia to get active on VHF again

this month of April is ideal for Meteor Scatter and also doing tests in Tropo mode as winter is moving in very fast

especially now that we have a warm inland and a cold sea winds tropoducting is possible taking your vhf signal to places unexpected.

every weekend morning the ZS guys are active on 6m doing Meteor scatter contacts on 6m,4m and 2m. 70cm is

V5 is very much in demand by all stations - not only on HF

doing contacts on VHF is possible on SSB and CW but the WSJT version 9 - latest version - is ideal doing from Meteor scatter to EME - it is free download

now what is needed is the big question

a basic yagi of moderate size is needed
of course a vhf radio with a soundcard interface - the same used for psk31 and rtty
WSJT software
and patience

we normally log on to ON4KST website
there you can decide what band or even EME you want to connect to.

i will keep you informed on what frequencys to use for each band on VHF/UHF

at this stage we only have 2 active hams on 6m
V51YJ Andrew 0811291212 and me V51PJ Pieter 0811277615

the last few weeks have seen many action on 6m with a few DXCC'S added to the logbook

i want to add a list for all active vhf operators together with band , cell numbers and e-mail addresses. This is for making known if an openings is there on vhf.

greetings from the namib

today was another good and interesting day for 6m for v5

i managed to work EA7KW on cw on 50.105

what was noted was that i had to point my antenna straight north

i managed to hear zs5y backscatter - his signals reflecting from something back to v5 - when he also worked ea7kw

my direct path took me across the atlantic and as this was no good i pointed north and there he was.

zs5y again had to point straight to EA7

v51kc was also heard in 9H and IK8
his signals was not that very strong but he was heard

yes we have 3 active guys on 6m

v51as apparently was also active in the previous years - any contact details will be appreciated

anybody else that has 6m capability on their radio = please advice
